I'm too busy!

When did life get so busy? The summer is flying by and I feel have not had much chance to just sit back and enjoy it.

I've been working extra shifts at work these past few weeks, so I haven't had much chance to join the blogging world. Sorry about that! Life has been crazy. I am looking forward to get back to a normal work schedule and having some down time to catch up on life outside the nursing home! (Including, unfortunately, cleaning my house. It has taken a hit these last couple weeks!)

So, I'll be rejoining y'all here in bloggy world. Hopefully with some tales of adventure. I always like a good adventure, don't you?

Buckingham Fountain

We went to Chicago the end of last month for a little vacation. We wanted to see the Field museum. We spent most of our day there, and enjoyed it all!

When we got done at the museum, we started walking. We didn't really know what we were heading to, maybe Navy Pier, or ice cream, or maybe some dinner.

On our journey we came across this beautiful fountain.

It had all sorts of statues in the water.

That's an amateur video, so I apologize for the poor quality!

It was a beautiful fountain. If it hadn't been so warm in the sun, we would have hung around there for a little while. Unfortunately, it was hot and there was no ice cream around!

Camping!

I have no idea where time keeps going. I have things to blog about and just can't seem to find the time. We are too busy! I'm taking a few minutes before I go to the laundromat to tell you of our camping adventure.

Andrew's sister and brother-in-law and kids just moved out to the middle of nowhere, an hours drive from us, and are building on 10.5 acres they bought. The already have the house up and are working on insulation and finishing the walls inside. It is a nice spot and the kids love it.

The invited us out to camp overnight to celebrate a nephews birthday. We had a great night. Hotdogs over the fire, smores, birthday gifts. Lots of fun and laughter.

We had our tent set up in a little clearing surrounded by trees. It was quiet and peaceful. We took our air mattress with us, as we didn't want to sleep on the hard rocky ground. Unfortunately, the pump to inflate it with somehow got separated from it. So, we went to bed on the hard rocky ground.

Which didn't last long. It was hard to fall asleep, plus I was having blood sugar issues so my pump keep beeping at us. We had taken emergency supplies with us just for this purpose, but as there are coyotes, raccoons, bears, and who knows what else around there, we didn't want food in the tent with us. Twice Andrew got up and got some food for me to try and bring my blood sugar back up.

It didn't work. When my pump beeped for the third time we decided that we had had enough. We gathered up our pillows and a sleeping bag and went to sleep in the back of his blazer. It was still hard, but with the back seats folded down and the front seats pushed forward, it wasn't too bad. And we actually got some sleep!

We both love camping, but this might have been more than we bargained for! We have, since, located the mattress pump and put it with the mattress. At least we will have it next time!

I'm back!

Sorry I haven't been around, but life has been crazy busy the last few weeks.

A couple weeks ago we had Base Camp at our church. I've heard it described as VBS on steroids. It's a very accurate description. Between helping with the 5th grade girls ever night and working extra that week, I was busy! It was a great week, though. We had a lot of fun with the kids, learning about Paul and studying Acts.

After that week Andrew and I needed a vacation! So, last week we headed to Chicago. It's where we got engaged, so it's a special place for us. We had great weather and a perfect day. I'll be sharing more about that later this week.

We had barely returned home before we headed back out again. One of our nephews had a birthday and we had said we would go and camp on their property (they are building on 10.5 acres out in the middle of nowhere. It's good camping area.) friday night. That's another adventure that I'll share about this week as well!

By the time we got to Independence Day, we were tired. We didn't do anything. We slept in and had a lazy day hanging around the house. We did go out for an ice cream cone after dinner. If you ever come across a place that has key lime soft serve, get it. It is the perfect after dinner dessert!

So, we are trying to get back into the swing of normal life. It's been busy, but fun. I'll try to catch up on everything I've missed!
