To the Island!

Last week Wednesday we planned to leave our little home away from home and head to Mackinac Island. We had some drizzly rain in the morning, so we decided to wait until after lunch.

This is the...what do you call this...the wheel house, the pilots room, the cockpit? Well, whatever you call it, we sat right next to it on our ferry ride to the island.

Of course, it isn't a ride to the island without a picture of the majestic bridge.

We headed up to the top of the island to visit the fort.

They have people in costume giving tours. We found out later that not only do these guys have to wear wool, but the soldiers that were at this fort back in the day were only issued winter uniforms. So, these poor guys are out in the summer heat in wool, winter uniforms.

This was the pit. If you did something really bad, this is where they would throw you.

Andrew only got into a little trouble, so he got to be in the jail cell, not the pit.

I love fireplaces and found the old, historical-ness of this one appealing.

I also liked this desk in the quartermasters office.

We found this fantastic hat in the gift shop. I'm not sure I have it on right, though. It looks kinda odd.

This is his innocent face. I'm not buying it.

We spent a few hours wandering around the island. It is always a great place to visit.

  3. Ummm, yes the hat is a little odd looking, lol! And I'm not buying Andrews innocent face either - the jail cell might be more appropriate! :)
